Barella agrees new Inter contract after recent Man City rejection

Nicolo Barella has agreed to the terms of a new contract with Inter, only months after turning down an approach from Manchester City.

In the last week of the summer transfer window, Pep Guardiola’s side contacted the Nerazzurri to officially request information about the Italian midfielder, interested in a late move for the 27-year-old. Talks did not progress, however, as Barella made it clear he wasn’t interested in a move.

Barella has continued to be a vital part of Simone Inzaghi’s Inter squad this season, seeing almost 2200 minutes of action in 31 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing five assists in that time.

Page 15 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Barella has agreed to a slight raise in his new Inter contract, which is set to last to June 2029. He currently earns around €6m net per season and this will rise to €7m net through the inclusion of accessible add-ons.

The Nerazzurri have started to focus their new contracts on the basis of a large fixed salary with lucrative bonuses linked to their work in the Champions League and the new Club World Cup.
