Astros' J.P. France misses start due to family emergency
Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Astros right-hander J.P. France was scratched from his Friday night start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix due to a family emergency.

The team didn't disclose the nature of the emergency. Manager Dusty Baker told reporters he learned of the situation Friday morning.

France was still in Phoenix, but Baker didn't know if he would show up to the ballpark on Friday night. The 28-year-old rookie is 11-6 with a 3.83 ERA in 24 appearances (23 starts) this season.

Right-hander Jose Urquidy (2-3, 5.84 ERA) was called on to fill in and make his 10th start of the season and the 70th of his career.

Houston also placed reliever Ryne Stanek on the paternity list and recalled fellow right-hander Seth Martinez from Triple-A Sugar Land.
