Tiger Woods , a name synonymous with golf greatness, has been granted a special exemption to participate in the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, North Carolina. This development breathes new life into the championship, and fans are eager to see the 15-time major champion back in action.

A Historic Exemption

The United States Golf Association (USGA) made the announcement on Thursday, recognizing Woods' unparalleled contributions to the sport of golf. Having won the U.S. Open three times in his career (2000, 2002, and 2008), Woods has been a staple at the annual tournament. However, his exemption into the U.S. Open ran out in 2023, making this special exemption a significant nod to his legacy within the game.

"The U.S. Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career," Woods stated, reflecting his gratitude and excitement for another opportunity to tee it up at Pinehurst.

Despite a challenging performance at the Masters, where he finished last among players who made the cut, Woods' resolve remains unshaken. And while he likely wasn't happy with the overall result at Augusta, setting the record for making 24 straight cuts at The Masters is still an accomplishment worth celebrating.

Woods expressed a hopeful trajectory earlier this season as he's looking to participate in one event per month. The 124th U.S. Open is now penned as one of the stops.
