Nicholas Walters (29-1-1, 22 KOs) outboxed Joseph Adorno (18-4-2, 15 KOs) over 10 rounds to claim a unanimous decision win.

The lightweight fight headlined a ProBox card at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, FL. Viewers could catch the action live on the ProBox TV YouTube channel and their website. Scores for the bout were 98-91, 97-92 and 95-94.

The Wednesday night fight was the first time Walters boxed on US soil since a seventh-round stoppage loss to Vasyl Lomachenko in November 2016. After not having a single bout for over six years, he returned to boxing with two fights in Colombia last year, both eight-rounders. Walters won his first fight back via unanimous decision and followed it up with a second-round knockout nine months later.

Adorno vs. Walters recap

The clash began with both boxers staying at range of each other. Walters was the one pressing forward, but not very aggressively. He consistently threw out the jab, establishing himself in the bout. It was this punch that helped “Tha Axe Man” keep Adorno away and he kept throwing and landing for the entirety of the fight.

Round six saw Adorno land an overhand right and blood began to pour from the nose of Walters. This wound up being the American’s best round. However, a lack of activity from Adorno allowed Walters to win rounds on the judges scorecards. The Jamaican was outboxing his opponent, a departure from the time where he was winning fights by knocking fighters out.

A point was taking from Adorno following the ninth round for landing a punch well after the bell rang. Walters continued outworking the American with uppercuts and hooks to the body. In the end, his work over 10 rounds was enough to get him a unanimous decision win and establish himself in the lightweight division. Adorno is now 3-3 in his last six fights.

Undercard results

Starling Castillo (19-1-1, 13 KOs) won a split decision against Jesus Saracho (13-2-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight fight. While one judge had it 96-94 for Saracho, the other two saw it 99-91 and 98-92 for Castillo.

In welterweight action, Omar Juarez (15-2, 5 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Clarence Booth (21-10, 13 KOs). Scores for the 10-round clash were 99-89 and 98-90 (x2). Booth went to the canvas twice in the tenth round.
